Gwibber goes TweetDeck in Lucid

Ubuntu supremo Jono Bacon has been blogging about Gwibber and tweeting in Ubuntu Lucid – including the awesome screenshot of a mutli-column Gwibber as shamlessly pasted above.

He rather eloquently raves about it: -

No more ugly Adobe Air app. No more closed source Twitter client. No more lack of identi.ca support. No more horrible notification bubbles. Instead, sweet, native, effortless microblogging, right from my Ubuntu desktop. A veritable ass kicking at at it's finest.

Nice, that looks a heck lot better to read than Tweetdeck. Does it have better features though?

I wonder if it will get MySpace / Facebook Support. That’d increase my tempt to leave tweetdeck.

Awesome. Lets just hope Gwibber developers stick to this interface instead of keep changing it every week or so.

The real question with gwibber is whether or not it’s going to be stable. B/c it’s updated a lot (thank you F/OSS development!) I keep trying it, but in the past, gwibber has spent half its time making me angry b/c it wouldn’t respond, or the fonts heinously large, or trying to change themes would crash it, etc…

I’m all for ditching Air (what does it actually provide?), but I’m mostly interested in stable, usable software, first and foremost.

I didn’t realize this, but anyone running the daily PPA version can get this view as well. I found out you can get this view by going to Gwibber -> New Stream or pushing Ctrl+N.
