Easy XSlpash Background Changer App

Last November (has it been that long already!) we posted an article highlighting a script that automatically changed your XSplash background to that of your desktop wallpaper. It was very well received by readers here (and other blogs that posted it subsequently) so i’m pleased to report that the script has since received some rather awesome updates!

New Features
‘Xsplash background Settings’ – as it is now known – allows a user to conveniently change/set the following: -

  • Set the XSplash background to any image you choose
  • Sync it with your desktop wallpaper
  • revert it back to the original background

Download
XBS now comes in a handy one-click install .deb file. Download it from the following link and double-click to install.

XBS can be launched from System > Preferences > Xsplash Background Settings.

I’ve translated the app to French. I hope that meerkat will include it soon :â‹…D.
    I love Gtranslator !

It would be great if Canonical includes it by default :D

No matter the topic, people will always ask: “What’s that wallpaper you’re using?”. So…

What’s that wallpaper that is shown in the dialogue. Seen it before around here, would love to get it.

Oh, and there’s a typo in the title, btw.

When I try using XSplash, nothing happens. I launch it, go to to Use Custom Background, choose a bg and try to apply it and get prompted for my password. I enter my password and it goes back to the main XSplash window but it is still the bg image is unchanged and even when I restart nothing is different. What could be wrong?

This is not too much related with this, but I’d suggest you to talk about Webilder; a cool applet to get always the best wallpaper on your screen from flickr (unfortunately a little bit forgotten right now)! ;)
