Mark Shuttleworth No Longer CEO Of Canonical; Ubuntu To Get His Focus

Mark Shuttleworth has announced that he is to step down as CEO of Canonical, the financial backers of Ubuntu. The CEO duties of Canonical will be handed over to Jane Silber the current COO of Canonical.

Wishing to focus more on making Ubuntu better and less on the mundane financial aspects of Canonical, Mark, in his announcement, states that he wants to focus on “…product design, partnerships and customers.”  Continuing “Those are the areas that I
enjoy most and also the areas where I can best shape the impact we have
on open source and the technology market.”

There were mumours earlier today that something like this was going to announced, and the news, whilst a little sudden, will most certainly have a great benefit on Ubuntu and the community with Mark wanting “…to spend
more time figuring out how we harness the collaborative process to
build better, more insightful products.”

Not entirely sure if congratulations is the right word, but this little reshuffle sounds most certainly for the better.
