Get Applications That Didn’t Make The Ubuntu CD Available In One Download Thanks To “B-Sides”

Sunday, November 29, 2009

“B-Sides” installs a selection of software that “didn’t make the Ubuntu disc” but “complements” the Ubuntu desktop well. Just like a B-side on a music CD!

bsides

Keeping with Ubuntu’s “one application per task” rule it doesn’t add extra browsers, more music players or another photo management applications but rather new applications a user might benefit from. (So no obscure software, either!)

What you get

“B-Sides” installs the following software: -

  • Gwibber
  • GNOME Do
  • PiTiVi
  • Cheese Simple
  • CCSM
  • Jokosher
  • Restricted Extras
  • Miro
  • OpenOffice (For Ooo Apps Not Installed – Formula, Etc)
  • Inkscape
  • Gnome X-Chat
  • Got To Gnome (task management)
  • PyRoom (full screen text editor)
  • GAiksaurus (Thesaurus)
  • Vim
  • OGMRip (Ripping software)
  • Adblock Firefox Add-on
  • Droid & Liberation Fonts
  • Gimp
  • GnomeScan
  • Extra themes and backgrounds
  • Déjà Dup (Backup tool)

You can install of this great software from the B-Sides PPA which is only available for Karmic.
