i’ve manages to get it to open under ubuntu 11.10,

but i get Invalid Image error once picasa picture viewer opens.

If those who are using ubuntu 11.10, and are not able to set default Photo viewer as a “PicasaPhotoViewer”.. then this can help you out.

go to this location

cd ~/.local/share/applications

Then there is file called as mimeapps.list

Open it with your favorite editors

gedit mimeapps.list

then search for image, then you will find out eog.desktop as an default
NOTE: This can be change if you been using shotwell or something else, In my case it was image viewer

Replace it with this one —> PicasaPhotoViewer

Then viola…Done..

It works… after installing, on any image, choose open with>custom command>scroll to the alphabet “p”>search for “PicasaPhotoViewer” and select it as default. It works fine for me, but needs a bit improvement. waiting for the next version.

it says install for me too, but i actually opened a image file with it!
this surely means it gets installed but doesnt show that it is.

To use Photo Viewer inside Gnome Nautilus right click on the file (with file type you want to associate with Picasa Photo Viewer) Open with > Open with other application… > Use a custom command > /usr/bin/PicasaPhotoViewer

It doesnt work… it gets installed, then instead of the remove button, it shows install button… so didnt install…
