Humanity Style Icon: The Main Ubuntu Menu Logo

This icon will replace the current colourful Ubuntu logo icon in the top left with a monochrome Humanity style one. Perhaps an humanity icon too far? Not to me!

115270-1

You can get it @ http://gnome-look.org

Install

  • Hit ALT+F2
  • Enter: €œgksudo nautilus /usr/share/icons/Humanity/places/24″
  • Make a backup of the current icon (rename it to start-here-original.svg, for example.)
  • Move the new icon across to the folder
  • Right click it and choose ‘properties’
  • Go to the ‘Permissions’ tab and enter the following: -
  • Owner access = “Read and Write”
  • Group access = “Read-only”
  • Others access = “Read-only”
  • Open ALT+F2 again
  • Enter: €œkillall gnome-panel€
  • Enjoy!
{Thanks to dhojgaard for the kontact & Bryan for the correction!}

    You forgot the “gksudo nautilus” in front of “/usr/share/icons/Humanity/places/24″
    :)

    And the link does not lead directly to that content just to gnome-look.org

    the direct link is: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Humanity+Ubuntu+Start+Menu+Logo?content=115270

    I must be in the minority, but I don’t see the attraction of these “Humanity-Style” icons. They often look like something a child would draw. Give me the GNOME icons any day. I like color.

    thats cool. i like the lack of colors.

    I can’t seem to get this to work. After I “killall gnome-panel”, the icon doesn’t change into the desired Humanity icon, but rather it turns into a black square with a red ‘x’. I’ve been able to change it back to the default orange logo just fine, but can’t get the Humanity one to work

    @jamesanderson0089:

    I was getting the same as you, but I’ve figured it out now!

    Once you have copied the new file to “/usr/share/icons/Humanity/places/24″, right-click the file and choose “Properties”.

    Go to the Permissions tab, and make the following selections:
    - Owner access = “Read and Write”
    - Group access = “Read-only”
    - Others access = “Read-only”

    Then do “sudo killall gnome-panel” to refresh — the icon should be there.
