Automatically Change Your Xsplash Background To Your Desktop Wallpaper

Change your XSplash background from to that of your wallpaper automatically.

114984-1

Download

@ Gnome-look.org

Installation/How to use

  1. Extract the archive you have just downloaded.
  2. Move 'wallpaper_daemon.py' somewhere safe where it won't get deleted
  3. Make it executable via the terminal using 'chmod +x wallpaper_daemon.py'
  4. Run ./wallpaper_daemon.py –install to set necessary permissions etc.
  5. Add the 'wallpaper_daemon.py' to startup applications via System > Preferences > Startup Applications

Now whenever you login and change your wallpaper the daemon will automatically adjuct the xsplash background to the same image.

Why not combine this with an awesome new €œloading animation€?

You forgot to say that imagemagick must be installed in order to let the script work.

i would also like to know, because I messed up my gdm login before.

I agree – is it simple to revert this in case of wanting to go back to default? I would like to know before trying it, although it does look pretty nice.

          sudo nautilus

Just go to /usr/share/images/xsplash then extract backup archive (.tar maybe) replace all file in that directory.

          Sorry for my English

The easiest way, imo, is just to re-install the xsplash files via synaptic or download them and install them again from the karmic repos @ http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic/ubuntu-xsplash-artwork

will this work with the human swarm theme you presented us a few days back?

  • WindPower

Is there any way to get this on Kubuntu 9.10? Or to get Xsplash at all? Without Xsplash, without the software Center, without a KDE frontend for Ubuntu one, I feel like there was no change in Kubuntu 9.10.

    jordanwb@Jordan-Laptop:~/Scripts$ ./wallpaper_daemon.py –install
    [sudo] password for jordanwb:
chmod: cannot access `/usr/share/images/xsplash’: No such file or directory

    Okay now what?

nice script specially when used with “Human Swarm” but the problem is the black screen after xsplash, its so annoying.
anyway lets hope the Canonical is working on this problem.

After installing this on my laptop (running karmic, netbook remix), the netbook-launcher interface keeps segfaulting. Now I can’t get the netbook remix interface back. I’ll post a fix if I find one.

I really like this tweak. However, it goes unresponsive every time I shut down. Ubuntu asks whether it should kill an “unknown process” that I’m almost sure is the wallpaper_daemon.py

    • http://omgubuntu.co.uk/ d0od

Disable it and see. If it is the script being unresponsive you can just run it manually whenever you want to change your wallpaper/xsplash combo.

To run manually just cd to the folder where you keep it and run ./wallpaper_daemon.py
