ShipIt Now Taking Orders For Karmic Koala CD’s.

ShipIt are now taking pre-orders for free CD’s of Ubuntu 9.10.

ShipIt send copies of Ubuntu for free all around the world – you merely need to request one!

It is important to note that delivery can take up to ten weeks so it may be worth downloading and burning your own copy if you’re impatient. If you’re a 64 bit user you may be annoyed to discover that ShipIt only ship 32bit flavours of Ubuntu.

“If you’re a 64 bit user you may be annoyed to discover that ShipIt only shit 32bit flavours of Ubuntu.”

32bit flavours of shit are pretty awful. ;)

Yep – I noticed that today as well.

My order is already in!! :-)

I would think a majority of PCs now have 64-bit capable processors. Even low end laptops and desktops come with 4 gigs of ram now. It seems shortsighted of them to only offer the 32bit version of Ubuntu. I hope they will correct this oversight soon.

Apparently I’ve exceeded my limit of free CDs I’m allowed to request, and can’t download it. Strangely enough, it seems some people on the Ubuntu Forums who have never requested a single disc are getting the same error as well.

As did i having only ever ordered ONE cd in the past.

My tip – re-register using a different e-mail address! Naughty, but hey.

“You have already received our maximum number of allowed shipments. Please download the CD image and record it yourself. ”

    What’s wrong ?

Nothing’s wrong (apparently), Canonical (who pay for the Cd’s manufacture and distribution) are limiting the number of CD;s available and to whom. If you’ve ordered CD’s past it seems to be a lottery whether you’ll be allowed any again. Annoying since this “limit” has never been mentioned before..

My tip is simply to register a new launchpad account using a different e-mail and order them using that (don’t go mad, it’s people ordering 30, 40, 50 copies and then flogging them on eBay that has led to this)

Perhaps if you’ve exceeded your CD limit, then downloading the ISO from Ubuntu would be the best thing to do, so as to free up CD shipments for the newcomers to Ubuntu. It is a shame that they’re not giving members CD’s who have previously ordered from them but as it’s a free service then no one can really complain.
