Karmic GDM Gets New Glowy Icons

Karmic’s GDM received some small updates today that brought with them a new HumanLoginIcon set full of beautiful glowing icons – much more akin to the mock-up than the previous humanity icons used in it’s place.

It also has replaced the ‘computer’ icon of the login window with a glowing Ubuntu logo – which looks gorgeous!

If you’re using Karmic – update and take a peek!

Also checkout the new pathbar in software-center 0.5.0. It is not used by default (yet), but looks gorgeous. It wil slide out when the path is extended.

ok and how did you get it?

It seems as though I can’t change the gdm wallpaper like before (to have my gdm, xsplash and desktop the same). Have you tried it?

I haven’t as of yet, but i shall try it in a sec and see!

Nice! That makes the whole log on screen look more professional (IMHO).

  • Mel

Nice!! I was disappointed with the older GDMs. This looks nice, and I hope it gets better.

The greyish blue background is so dull that it can only be described as fugly. It doesn’t even follow current theme colors.

    • Mel

What greyish blue background are you talking about?

It’s brownish wine. And yes I agree with you that it doesn’t flow with the current theme colors at all, but lets wait until the final artwork is released. I would love to see Impression as the default theme (it looks better with Night Impression window borders), it flows better with the GDM than the Human theme.

If only Canonical could be torn away from their beloved bloody (dated) human theme!

It was about the app center, but posted the comment here for some reason

I just want to know if/when the Clutter-powered Face Browser is ever going to land!

      Don’t we all! *sigh*

From what i understand it’s still being worked on and should appear in Lucid +1 (they wouldn’t stick it in a LTS i don’t think)

Sweet! News of the glowy icons made my night. (Now by comparison you can see how good my day has been.)

Anywho, I hope that these icons, or the design aesthetic somehow make it into other parts of the system.

Has anyone else gotten a new version of the human theme with newer icons of humanity?

    Glowing Sexy…

    Hey d0od
The new icons are really nice but the sounds in gdm are really annoying because there is no easy way to disable them.

I just found how to do it here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm/+bug/437429

sudo -u gdm dbus-launch gconftool-2 –set /desktop/gnome/sound/event_sounds –type bool false

    thought i should share ;)
