App Of The Week: ViewNior – Lightweight Image Viewer

app of the month
ViewNior is a lightweight image viewer that was designed with “simple and fast” as it’s mantra – and boy does it live up to it!

I’m kicking off my new 'App Of The Week' series with it because it's just so wonderfully simple and yet a bit of a hidden gem! It can do everything the current Ubuntu default image viewer can but faster!

Features: -

  • Speed – ViewNior launches blazingly fast when viewing an image.
  • Editing – You can crop images from within ViewNior.
  • Easy-to-use – It’s layout is unobtrusive allowing easy use.
  • Set the image as your wallpaper from within ViewNior.
  • Displays animated images

Download

The current version of ViewNior is 0.7. You can get it from the offical PPA: -

Despite all good features, it’s not my default yet on Jaunty since it doesn’t support ESC key to close an open window, which works well with the EOG.

You forgot to mention that it can display animated images as animations. That was my one major gripe with EOG, and ViewNoir has it solved.

… Then do it once more for .png, .jpeg, .jpg, .gif, .tiff, and every other image file you may encounter ! It’s the ubuntu way !
