Gnome Panels can be set to auto-hide, however they can be quite slow to ‘re-appear’. This is a quick fix to make them pop-up quicker!
The default timing for the panel to show on auto-hide is a sloth-like 500ms. This may not sound like a lot, but speeding them up will make your system feel much more responsive.
- Open up a new terminal and type in gconf-editor
- You now have the configuration editor open.
- On the left you need to follow this selection: apps -> panel -> toplevels -> bottom_panel_screen0
-
On the right-hand side, scroll down and find the row with unhide_delay.
-
Change this value to 100 by clicking on the number and entering 100.
-
Exit.
Wow! It’s done! Try it now!
