Convert video for your iPod, iPod Touch and other PMP players by using Handbrake!
The full spiel on Handbrake is that it’s an “open-source, GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded video transcoder, available for MacOS X, Linux and Windows.”
Which as well as sounding a bit geeky, also sounds pretty nice!
It currently supports the following formats and codecs: –
- File format: MP4, MKV, AVI or OGM
- Video: MPEG-4, H.264, or Theora (1 or 2 passes or constant quantizer/rate encoding)
- Audio: AAC, MP3, Vorbis or AC-3 pass-through (supports encoding of several audio tracks)
You can download it from the following links:

(NB: I use Handbrake in Jaunty and it works flawlessly)
