Speed Up Auto-hide Panels

If you auto-hide any of your panels you may get annoyed at how slow they are to pop back up when your ‘mouse over’ them. This is because the default timing for the panel is 500ms but you can make them much more responsive!

Here is a little tweak to make auto-hide panels more responsive.

  • Open up a new terminal and type in

gconf-editor

  • You now have the configuration editor open. On the left you need to follow this selection:

apps -> panel -> toplevels -> bottom_panel_screen0

  • On the right-hand side, scroll down and find the row with unhide_delay. Change this value to 100 by clicking on the number and entering 100.
  • Exit.

Wow! It’s done! Try it now!
